Organic Pine Nuts (kernals) £6.29p/100g

£6.29Price
  • Pine nuts have a very delicate taste and texture and are high in protein. They can be eaten raw - they have a soft texture and a sweet buttery flavour. However, their flavour is magnified when they are toasted and add a beautiful taste and crunch to a salad.

Pine nuts are the edible seeds of pine trees.

They are shaped like teardrops and a couple of cm long. Pine trees take 15 - 25 years to begin producing the seeds, which take about 18 months to mature in the pine cones.

The seeds are taken out of the cone by hand, and then the second shell is removed before the pine nuts are ready to eat.

Frequently added to meat, fish, salads and vegetable dishes or baked into bread. In Italian they are called pinoli and are an essential component of Italian pesto sauce.
