Our beautiful Fair Trade sari covered notebooks will add a burst of colour to your writing. The perfect size to slip into your bag, they’re the ideal companion for notes, doodles, or just for your to-do lists. Each notebook is filled with 30 pages of unlined, handmade khadda paper.

Expertly crafted using both contemporary and traditional methods, each one is bound by hand and ready to withstand any knocks and bumps on their journeys with you. The sari material comes from Varanasi, one of the most religious cities in the world and a centre of excellence for sari making.

The pages are created from khadda paper (also known as kaddi or khaddi). This sustainable material is crafted by hand from recycled cotton, salvaged from the huge waste of the Indian garment industry. Only unbleached cotton is used, ensuring the paper is acid-free. Lightly textured and luxuriously thick, it feels beautiful to write, draw, or paint on. While it’s perfect for ball-point pens, gel pens, or watercolours, we wouldn’t recommend it for use with fountain pens.

Due to the handmade nature of our products each one is unique, but loveliness comes as standard.

All the products in this range are handmade by a small family business in Rajasthan, India.

We are fortunate enough to visit them every year, having worked with them for many years following Fair Trade guidelines. We are incredibly proud that together we are able to provide people in rural villages fairly paid work that may have otherwise been difficult to find, and consider the producers and their families true friends.

The paper in all our journals and photo albums is made by a charity in rural Rajasthan that promotes women’s education and their social standing in the rural villages. For more information about the sustainable materials used, take a look at the product description.

By making a purchase, you are helping to continue the fantastic work of our producers.
